I want to challenge
every Kenyan to go to the cemetery and disappoint the graveyard. Die like the
Apostle Paul who said I have finished my course, I have kept the faith and I
have been poured out like a drink offering. There is nothing left. I am ready
to die... When you die, die like I am planning to die. Empty. It's finished.
- Dr Myles Munroe, speaking with a journalist on a visit to Kenya,
just 3 weeks ago.
I looked for words to pen down all day but the words just did
not form. For the first hour after reading the news, the only two words I could
mutter were "God" and "Jesus Christ".
The moment my phone's alarm rang today's morning, I noticed
I had an unread message on the WhatsApp Application, and that message just
seemed to blow apart the beginning of a new week for me.
It read "Pls o.
What am I hearing about Dr. Myles and family?"
Straightaway, curiosity got a hold of me and I logged on to
Facebook and immediately saw the tragic news about the Passing to glory of Dr
Myles Munroe, his wife, their daughter and others with them on the plane.
Finding it difficult to believe the whole story, I was
hoping I would see a second breaking news later in the day countering the story
that has made headlines all day. This night, when I began getting Social Media updates
of the Global Leadership Conference that Dr Myles and his team were on their way
to before the tragic accident, I finally confirmed my fears.
I have not been a very big fan of Dr Myles Munroe until
about 2011 when I stumbled on his book 'In Pursuit of Purpose'. For me, it
was a life-defining moment which impact I have not recovered from until this
moment. I just could not but get another of his books, 'The Principles and Power of Vision'.
Very recently, just before I was appointed into a major
spiritual leadership assignment, I walked by a bookstand and was attracted to
another of Dr Munroe's books - 'Passing It On' and just had a
prompting to purchase it. Reading that book was like a crash leadership course
before my assignment. Every single leadership core value that I currently
propagate to my co-travellers on this journey were reinforced by my reading of
the book. I dare say that Dr Myles Munroe's 'Passing It On' has had
the greatest influence on my leadership style and values.
The World will surely miss the Great Icon, a major authority
and a force to reckon with on subjects ranging from Purpose to Vision to
Leadership.
We are comforted because we know that Dr Myles Munroe
remained committed to the values he professed even till his passing, and we
know that his works, immaterial and material will continue to impact lives for
generations to come.
Much more, we are comforted with the following words from
scripture:
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have
no hope. I Thessalonians 4:13
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent
from the body, and to be present with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:8
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his
saints. Psalms 116:15
Sleep on, Dr
Myles Munroe.
We will meet again, not on this divide but on the other
side, across the river, away from the turmoil and spoils at the feet of Him who
authors and finishes.
